Default R/D Scythe Ranger

R/W=Thumper
R/N=Toucher
R/A=Expertise Sin

Now...

R/D=Scyther (Scythe Ranger)

Attributes:

Scythe Mastery: 12
Expertise: 9+3=12
Beast Mastery: 9
Wilderness Survival: 4

Skills:
1.) Tiger's Fury
2.) Wounding Strike {E}
3.) Chilling Victory
4.) Victorious Sweep
5.) Reap Impurities
6.) Whirling Defense/Storm Chaser
7.) Rez Sig
8.) Apply Poison

Use Apply Poison before battle, then simply swing away at your target with Tiger's Fury activated as much as possible. Be sure to use Wounding Strike constantly if Monks continue to remove conditions. Chilling Victory is also a spellcaster killer and works great in mobs. Victorious Sweep should only be used when your opponent has less health than you, and Reap Impurities is a great way to heal after your poison/bleed combo, especially in a mob.

I haven't tried this build myself, but I know that some people run a R/D build that is a lot like a Rampaging Thumper, but with Scythe attacks instead of hammer attacks. It does more damage than hammer, but doesn't have the kd effect that makes the Thumper build so effective. I'm sure a R/D scythe build could still work fine in PvE though.

Since your using so many conditions would Reap Impurities work?

Haven't looked into Reap.

@Archon, this build is meant for spike conditions, and it puts some good pressure. Combined with a thumper, this could be a deadly duo.

I tried goin R/D before too but, it just felt weak. A xxx/D scythe-wielder is better on a class that can make use out of it's huge damage range, such as a warrior with primal rage/wild blow or an assassin. As an R/D, I found myself hitting very low even at 12 in scythe mastery.

I could see this as being a support for a Thumper to increase damage while the Thumper KDs, but dual KD still might be a bit more advantageous.

I've tried dualing with a Thumper and I think it adds more pressure with the conditioning. Trust me. CHilling Victory owns. Don't believe me? We can always scrim a 2 thump and ** team against my TA build... Look beyond what you "think" can happen because there is a saying that people are sometimes "proven wrong". Oh and for TA I added a pet as well.

I still love this build. It's damage combined with the condition slam is just plain sexy and being able to take a warrior down with ease as he tries to penetrate your Whirling Defense is great.

I like it other than the fact that you need to attack to heal

I would say a RaO with it might work but not wounding strike.

Didnt they nerf Expertise to only work on Ranger skills and a few others? Or am i imagining things...

If so, why run 12 expertise? Its a huge waste just so you can get some mileage out of Tigers Fury...

12 expertise is plenty, and no it works for all skill and stances regardless of which proffesion. To be honest I only added Tigger's Fury for RA purposes, but for more organized forms of PvP I'd say instead of that add Charm Animal and find room for Comfort Animal if it means that much to you.

RaO, Lyssan's Assault, Spike.

Prefer Thumper.

You people obviously don't understand the point. You fail to understand where this build exceeds that of yours. A thumper can KD and do damage. It does add pressure, but a Scythe Ranger here can do even more damage (especially with Chilling Victory), have a type of self heal which your thumper fails to have, and with Apply Poison combined with a spammable Wounding Strike adds pressure with -7 degen, which is better than a Thumper's pressure because if the target you go after uses Guardian or some type of melee evade, at least from one hit the Scythe Ranger can still leave a mark on that foe that could end up possibly killing it.

Thumper is not a bad build, but I've seen and tried this. This build is sexy, it whips off alot of damage and the degen is great. In TA just take out Tiger's Fury for CHarm Animal and perhaps Whirling Defense for Comfort Animal and you'll get good results when paired with another thumper.

(Why, when this is a PvE part of the builds forum, do builds end up here being talked about for PvP, GvG, TA, etc.?)

I've experiemented with a self-healing Bunny Thumper build in PvE Cantha that was very successful. It seems foolhardy to me to go romping through the countryside with murderous intent and not carry self heal if you have it! Lili had little difficulty taking down mobs and even a boss or two in the Jade Sea area where she was playing at the time.

Since I have an Elonian R/D already (using bows), perhaps I'll try something like this, too. I've noticed the dervish takes a different level of concentration than any other profession to play -as does the thumper- so the two ought to fuse well.

Has anyone else here tried this build in PvE yet?

My R/D uses this build in PvE, and it works well because of the mob grouping. The Poison/CHilling Victory combo on a mob is devestating, along with Reap Impurities for a great self Heal.
